Exploring some new and some familiar places for landscape photography.
This summer was incredibly hectic in terms of work. But I tried to head up somewhere every other weekend for photography. In the early part of the summer, it was hiking in the Indian Peaks Wilderness in Colorado and Rocky Mountain National Park that took me to some of the most scenic lakes I have seen. In late summer I went to the area around Mono Lake in California for a weekend and then to Mount Rainier National Park in Washington. Here are a few photos from those trips.
Photographing or just visiting Mono Lake is a surreal experience. The landscape is like no other. And irrespective of the throngs of photographers there every evening, it's easy to loose track of time looking at the sunset colors changing among the tufas. South Tufa Preservation Area is a great place for sunrise or sunset photography. June Lake Loop near Mono Lake has some fanstastic camping. And there are great places to stay in Mammoth Springs nearby.
